The Trading Post Motel

Why you should choose Trading Post

The Trading Post & Motel was built in the late 1940's as a gas station, convenience store and motel. It has been transformed in the last 3 years into a show place. Our gas station includes pay at the pump, but you really should come inside. The store will wow you with its original wood beam ceiling and its fully stocked merchandise, including food, jewelry, t-shirts, coins, handmade local items, knives, pottery, propane cookers, ice cream and much more. We have a handicapped accessible restroom as well as two more newly renovated restrooms outside.

About The Trading Post

The Trading Post Motel (formally known as the Lariat Motel) currently has 4 rooms with 4 more coming soon. Three of the rooms have two full-size beds, a/c-heat, mini refrigerator, coffee maker, satellite TV and full restrooms, which include an extra large shower built into the original rock walls. The fourth room includes a king bed, a/c-heat, mini refrigerator, coffee maker and a full restroom with an extra large shower featuring Talavera tiles. The Motel is located in downtown Glenwood, which sits in the heart of the Gila Wilderness.

Our Rooms

The motel is located behind the Trading Post store. It was constructed back in the day out of old river rock. We have maintained the old charm of the original buildings but with very comfortable beds and modern amenities. It is the perfect stopping place for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life.

There is a small covered patio with picnic tables and a grill for the enjoyment of our guests, with many more updates to come.

Nice little spot to stop at and get gas along highway 180. Not a ton of spots to stop at along the way so it was definitely worthwhile. Was quite nice inside and the restrooms were nice and clean as well. Gas prices were reasonable and the staff was pleasant. I’ll definitely be stopping here again when I’m in the area as it was a pleasant and memorable experience.

This is a great store! Has a little bit of everything. Always clean, restroom is beautiful. Gas 24/7 and great gift items! Very friendly staff too.

I was really impressed with the complete renovation of this old "general store". The restroom is now located inside of the store instead of outside like in past years. It is beautiful now!

Things to do in Glenwood, NM

The historic Catwalk is just a few miles away. Other sites of interest include the ghost town of Mogollon, the New Mexico State Fish Hatchery, which exclusively raises Gila Trout, as well as many beautiful hiking trails.

Glenwood was founded back in the 1800's. It became known as the midway point between the Carlsbad Caverns and the Grand Canyon.
